Updating the Barcode Definitions

Download the Zebra Barcode Definition script from the following location.

Zebra Barcode Definition Download

Open Shop Manager and login with an account with ‘Admin’ privileges and open the ‘SQL Editor’.

Next click the ‘Open Folder’ in the top left of the SQL Editor window and select the Zebra Scanner Barcode Definitions.sql file and click ‘Open’.

The SQL Editor will load the script, now click the ‘Execute’ button in the top right. You will get a pop up window asking you to confirm that you want to run the script, click ‘Yes’.

If you didn’t receive any errors in the results tab. You can close the SQL Editor and Shop Manager. You are now ready to install the Zebra scanner.

Installing Zebra Scanner

Start by scanning the following barcode to put the scanner in serial mode.

Now we need to find out the correct COM Port that the scanner is configured for by opening ‘Device Manager’ in Windows and scroll down to the ‘COM Port’ section and click the ‘>’ sign to expand the section. Look for the device named ‘USB Serial Device’ and note the COM port number beside it. See the example below.

We need to look at the COM port settings and make a note of them. To do this ‘right’ click on the ‘USB Serial Device’ and click ‘Properties’, then click the ‘Port Settings’ tab on the window that opens.

Make a note or take a picture of the highlighted information as you will need this information when configuring the AIC Application.

Now let’s open the AIC Application and login with a user account that has ‘Admin/Supervisor’ privileges. Click the ‘Scanners’ button on the Home screen then click the ‘Scanners’ tab on the window that opens and click ‘Add’.

This is where you will need the settings you looked at earlier in Device Manager.

In the ‘Configure Scanner’ window, give the scanner a unique name and click the dropdown arrow under ‘Type’ and choose RS232.

Now plugin the settings from the data you recorded earlier in Device Manager and click the ‘Save’ button when you are finished. In the example below we will use COM5 with the correct Baud Rate, DataBits, Parity, and StopBits.

You should see the following screen once you click ‘Save’.

Next click the ‘Diagnostics’ tab and scan a barcode to test functionality of the new scanner. In this example I will scan an axle barcode.

Congratulations! You have finished installing a Zebra DS3678. If for some reason the scanner isn’t working in the AIC Application after following these instructions, make sure that you have updated the barcode definitions in the database.
