Setup and Installation of Honeywell Granit Series Wireless Scanners In Serial Emulation Mode
In this article we will cover the setup and installation of the Honeywell Granit Series Wireless Scanners using the USB to Serial HSM Software.
** Before we get started you will need to either have a Windows account with administrative rights or have your IT support personnel perform the installation for you.
Start with downloading the Honeywell Serial Emulation software here.
Once you have downloaded the software you will need to extract the compressed folder and follow the instructions in this document. When installing it ask if you want to install this for current user or everyone, please use the everyone option.
You will next need to plug the scanner into a USB port and scan the programming barcode located on Page 2 of the following document then place the scanner into the charging cradle.

Once you have programmed the scanner and installed the Honeywell HSM USB to Serial HSM Software you will need to open Device Manager by right clicking the Windows start button and click Device Manager. You will scroll down the list of devices to the COM Port section and expand the list of COM ports. You will see a device named ‘Industrial Charge and Communication Base’ with a COM port number next to it.

Take note of the COM port as you will need it later. In this case the port is using COM9 as the port number.
Open Component Inspection and login with a user account with admin rights. Click on the ‘Scanners’ tab. This will open a new window then click the Scanners tab and click ‘Add’.

The Configure Scanner window will open and you will need to assign the scanner a name, COM port number, baud rate and Databits, Parity, Stop Bits. In this example we set the COM port to COM 9. Next select ‘9600’ for the baud rate, and choose ‘8,N,1’ for the Databits section. Click ‘Save’. Restart Component Inspection after completing these steps.

Your scanner should be setup to work with Component Inspection.
